Located in the semi-desert between Georgia & the Azerbaijan border, it’s widely thought that Davit Gareja was constructed in the 6th century by Assyrian priests to boost Christianity in Georgia. The complex features 13 monasteries. Throughout this trip, some tourists may encounter tense drives among mountains along with loads of cattle on the road. The monasteries are spectacular, and the walls are coated with thousand-year-old spiritual paintings. The David Gareja Monastery differs from the others mainly because lots of its buildings are cut into a huge tilted rock and a few of its temples still maintain millenary frescos. Don’t be surprised to walk and climb on irregular ground. The walking route lasts around 8 km (5 miles).
